g’s room – a storybook nursery

it’s about time i follow up on my promise to show you graham‘s nursery. lee & i had fun spending nine months transforming the room from the ugliest space in the house into this:

as you might’ve guessed from the sneak peek at his wall of books, i wanted to build on the theme of reading and children’s literature.

a friend painted a personalized mural of the giving tree for us and i ordered custom knobs from etsy with images of favorite storybook characters. my crafty sister made a book mobile (that still needs to be hung :) ) just by looking a examples online.

this is my new favorite place to be – reading a book to graham in our fluffy orange glider.

I want to live in this room. Best nursery of all time!!

  3. I love the room! Very fun and cosy.

  4. I love this! What colors did you use on the wall and ceiling?

  5. Hey, T! So CUTE! How did you do the bookshelves? How have they worked out for you? Have you found that you need (can’t tell whether you have) a lip on the front side to prevent books from falling off? Do the books/deco tend to get dirty and need a lot of dusting? We’re trying to do our own version of shelves like yours to display book faces, so I’d love some tips!

    • sandy, the shelves do have a lip on them. if you click the link where i mention the wall of books above, i share how we created them. sadly, we moved from that house recently, so i never got to try them with a toddler, but we loved them for about a year! i didn’t have a problem with them getting dusty while we used them. i think it would depend on how often you use the books or toys. good luck! i hope it works out for you!

  6. Hey T, where did you get “the giving tree” canvas? I’m looking to get one for my fiancés birthday and I can’t seem to find a more perfect one than this one.

Hi there! My dad and stepmom are having a baby this September. I’ll be a big sister :) I wanted to know if your friend painted for a living or on the side. I would love to get in contact with him or her to see if they would paint something for the nursery. I would love to gift them something as beautiful as the giving tree piece.

    • I’m sorry for the delay, Niara. I was busy with a 3-day-old new baby when you posted this comment. 😉
Our friend is not a professional. I hope you were able to find someone to paint something special for your baby brother or sister. :)

Where did you get the rug?

    • I got it at a local baby boutique. I think the brand is something like “shaggy raggy” and I bet you can find it online. Happy hunting!
